What is the Ideal Nose?

Throughout history, humanity, which has treated the human body as a subject, has strived to define and create the most ideal form of this subject. Our nose, the most striking organ in the middle of our face, is one of our organs most affected by this idea of idealism.

Many different Plastic Surgeons have defined the proportions that the nose and face should have with this idea of idealism. Not only the proportions of the organs on our face to each other, but also the angles of our nose to our forehead, lips and chin are important. Although ideal face and nose measurements are defined according to these angles and ratios, it is not very easy to come across an ideal face and/or nose either in the world or in our country.

Just because a person has a beautiful face does not mean that their face has ideal measurements, and even on a face that is close to ideal, different nose measurements may look pleasing to the eye. For example, although Rihanna has delicate and ideal facial features, her nose is very wide compared to her face, far from the ideal nose. However, her wide nose does not prevent her from being perceived as ‘beautiful’ by the whole world. Again, Milla Jovovich, who is known all over the world, has an almost ideal face, while there is a hump on the dorsum of her nose. However, this protrusion does not harm the perception of ‘beauty’ in any way.

Trying to make an ideal nose for a non-ideal face is like buying and wearing a dress that looks very nice in the window, even if it does not fit. Therefore, instead of talking about the ideal nose, it would be a more accurate approach to examine the features of the person’s face well and try to give the nose shape that suits this face.

Again, a nose that looks very nice on one person may seem artificial on another person. When a patient undergoes rhinoplasty, if a person they have just met can understand that the nose has been operated on, it is difficult to say that this surgery has been completely successful. Instead of talking about the ideal nose in rhinoplasty, it would be more accurate to discuss the ideal result. Achieving a nose shape that suits the person’s face, is not abnormal, and that their friends who know the person before the surgery can understand that there has been a change, while people they have just met cannot understand that they have had rhinoplasty, can be defined as the ideal result in rhinoplasty.
