Although the word 'cancer' often scares our patients, the growth of the cancerous lesion can be prevented and eliminated with minor surgical interventions to be performed at an early stage. As with every type of cancer, early diagnosis and treatment are very important.
Treatment varies according to the type of skin cancer. While surgery and follow-up are sufficient for basal cell carcinoma, advanced tests are required for epidermoid carcinoma and malignant melanoma. The type of surgery to be performed and the treatment options after surgery vary depending on the patient. Contrary to popular belief, surgical removal of a nevus (mass) or cancerous lesion does not lead to cancer formation in any way. However, it does not cause a cancer cell to grow. Therefore, when a suspicious image is encountered, it is necessary to consult a plastic surgeon as soon as possible.
It is correct to be suspicious if a nevus grows, changes color, itches or reddens.
